Earthquake Drill Moves Monol

We are ready! The postponed Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) was finally held today, September 27, 2017, at around 2 PM.

The nationwide drill would originally take place on September 21, but the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) postponed it following President Rodrigo Duterte’s announcement of a National Day of Protest during that day.

The national day of protest suspended classes and work in government offices.

The earthquake drill promotes disaster preparedness and practice orderly evacuations.

Earthquake Drill 3

The nationwide earthquake drill took place at around 2 p.m today. Police officers from BCPO (Baguio City Police Office) monitored the drill together with our security and medical team. Pinsao Proper Barangay Captain Raymund Laxamana administered the event making sure everybody knew the reasons for such a drill. He also thanked Monol for its participation in this nationwide drill. Also, he reminded everyone to always be cautious and teach our younger siblings the things we learned from this drill.

Earthquake Drill 2

3 simple ways to keep safe when an earthquake occurs.

  • Duck/Drop – Duck/Drop where you are. This position protects you from being knocked down and also allows you to stay low and crawl to a safer place.
  • Cover – Cover your head and neck with one arm and hand
  • Hold – Hold on until shaking stops

Last September 19, a 7.1 Magnitude earthquake shook Mexico leading to the collapse of many buildings, injuries to 4,500 people (as of the moment), and hundreds of casualties.

It serves best to have preparation if ever a disaster strikes because no one can predict when earthquakes or other disasters will happen.
