We had the opportunity to speak with ALQAHTANI, SAAD BADI, an international student who has been studying in Monol since January 2023 to pursue his English studies and has still extended his study until 2024. Saad shared more about his experience in Monol and what motivated him to study in Baguio for his academic endeavors.

During your first days here in Monol, what were the challenges or problems that you faced, and do you still face the same challenges as before?

“At first, I was so nervous about my score, and speaking English is hard for me. With the help of the teachers, at my second month, I was improving a little bit. The teachers guided me so much and helped me during tough times, which is why I improved a lot on my 6th month study in Monol.”

What is your message to your teachers? 
First of all, I thank my teachers for encouraging me to learn English. I am deeply grateful to them and I believe Monol is lucky to have these hardworking teachers. I will promote Monol to my friends in Saudi Arabia. My favorite teachers are Ma’am Donna, Ma’am Honeylee, Ma’am Analyn, and Sir Wilson.”

What are your expectations of the IELTS program?
“I want to learn more about the English language although I expect it to be difficult but at the same time I am excited to learn more and also I want to get high score so I can study abroad in the future.”

What is your first impression of Monol?
Since this is my first time to travel abroad, I discovered that here in Monol, the staff and teachers are friendly and helpful, and it also feels like we are family here.”

Do you think that Monol is an ideal place to study English?
“Yes, it is the best place to learn, and Monol has good teachers.”.

What do you think are your strengths or skills that are useful in learning English?
“My strength is that I enjoy learning English, and I want to learn more to study abroad.”

How do you differentiate your experience between a man-to-man class and a group?
– “I like man to man classes more because I can focus to learn with the help of my teachers inside the room”.

What do you think are the best practices that a student must follow to learn English effectively?
“I suggest listening more to the teachers because they will be the ones to help you learn English more. You should also study hard and practice a lot.”


Have you tried exploring Baguio City? What are your interesting discoveries?

“My favorite place is Camp John Hay, and I want to go hiking there and I also love the Strawberry Farm in Baguio City.”

What’s the best Filipino food you’ve tried?
– “Halo-halo and banana cake are my favorite Filipino foods.”

Why did you choose the Philippines for your English study?
“I chose the Philippines because most of the courses offered have man-to-man classes, and some other countries only offer group classes.”

Why did you choose Baguio for your English studies?
“I chose Baguio because it has the perfect weather to study; it is so calm and cool.”

What is your message to a student who is shy and scared to study abroad?
“I can say that I was once shy and scared to travel abroad, but my message is don’t be scared and don’t be shy because teachers and staff will help you in your study of English, and they are so friendly, and you will feel like we are family.”
